Amid the rumours, Belgian champions Anderlecht have issued a statement this afternoon concerning the future of Argentine attacker Matias Suárez, who ideally should already be a CSKA Moscow player. However, he failed a first medical back in the summer and remains on Anderlecht’s books for the time being.
“The results from the second medical show that his rehabilitation has entered its final phase. CSKA Moscow however wish to wait for the player to recover fully,” the statement on the club website reads.
“It is currently not possible for the player to undergo all the necessary tests. Anderlecht and CSKA both want Suarez to remain in München where he will remain under close supervision from both clubs’ medical staff. A new medical is planned for February.”
The Russian transfer window remains open until March, allowing the transfer to still go through this season. While Anderlecht will not be able to spend the c. €8m they are due to receive directly from the deal, their coffers have been boosted to the tune of €17m as a result of their Champions League campaign, which saw them finish last in their group.
